I call this trail the poor man’s Skilak Lookout Trail as it offers the same views but not close up (although you do get a better view of the Kenai basin).

However, if you need something quick, this would do it. I did the whole hike in less than 45 minutes. It’s steep, but it’s only an 1/8 a mile, so it’s over fast.

Do either trail, but it’s redundant to do both.

Important Information

There are a lot of bears in the area, especially during salmon season. Don’t forget to make noise and be vigilant.

The lookout is very windy. Be sure to bring adequate clothing.

The entire Skilak Lake area is a great place to hang out, especially for families with small children (under 7). There are several great state campgrounds, easy trails but with great views, fishing, lots of wildlife, and some nice scenic overlooks. Skilak Lake is beautiful!
